GAINESVILLE BIG BAND: OUR STORY
The Gainesville Big Band assembles some of the best professional jazz musicians spanning the southeast. Under the direction of Marco Thomas, this live 18-piece big band, delivers a rich, full sound-- from Basie to Ellington, Gershwin to Miller, Porter to Mercer, Vegas to Broadway hits, including your favorite 60's television soundtracks, and pop. Since 2007, the band has brought big band jazz to Gainesville and the surrounding areas.
The band is comprised of talented and seasoned musicians and soloists. The saxophone section showcases Paul Gader, Andrew Little, John Gregory, and Katey Sands. Our trumpet section features the skills of Paul McReynolds, Vito Montauk, and Frank Young. The trombone section includes Gary Davis, Dan Wells, Albert Issac, and our illustrious leader Marco Thomas. Our ensemble would not be complete without the groove and time of our rhythm section which includes Geena Cesar on piano, Zan Preston on guitar, bassists Ben Sahalnick, and drummer Masa Enomoto. And last, but not least, our magnificent vocalist Timothy Trail.
The musicians of the Gainesville Big Band have a deep passion for jazz and a commitment to presenting quality performances in the Gainesville area and wherever we may travel.
